Berger Paints Shares Up 207.5% This Year as Investors Reward Earnings Momentum
Berger Paints shares have risen 207.5 per cent year to date, closing the week at N147.60 as investors rewarded the coatings maker's earnings delivery on the NGX.

Berger Paints Nigeria has emerged as one of the standout performers on the Nigerian Exchange in 2026, with the paint maker's shares up 207.5 per cent year to date after closing Friday's session at N147.60.
The rally has made Berger one of the most discussed mid-caps on the exchange, drawing interest from retail investors and portfolio managers alike. At Friday's close, the stock was trading at roughly 24.7 times trailing earnings — a premium to many industrial peers, and a clear signal that buyers are paying for growth rather than value alone.
What is behind the run
Construction activity, household repaint cycles and industrial coatings demand have underpinned the company's operating story through 2026. Cost discipline and the pass-through of naira and input price movements into product pricing have also supported margins even as the wider manufacturing sector has grappled with energy costs and thin credit.
The 207.5 per cent gain is measured from the stock's position at the start of the year and includes the effect of a strong run that has consistently outpaced the broader All Share Index's already impressive trajectory.
A premium valuation invites scrutiny
At nearly 25 times earnings, Berger's multiple sits well above the NGX average and leaves little room for earnings disappointment. Investors backing the stock are effectively forecasting continued margin strength and volume growth through the next reporting cycles.
Comparative shoppers on the exchange have noted that other industrial names trade at lower multiples, which typically sparks rotation debates in bearish weeks — including the third straight weekly decline the market just recorded.
What to watch next
Full-year results will be the next hard test. Sustained demand for decorative and industrial coatings, stable raw material costs, and the company's ability to keep pricing in line with inflation will determine whether 2026's 207.5 per cent run can be extended, or whether the premium multiple becomes a drag when broader market momentum cools.
